So you signed up for SWE, paid your dues, maybe you’re even an officer…what’s next? How do you make the most of your SWE membership?
One of SWE’s greatest resources is Leadership Coaching.
Every region offers a Collegiate Leadership Coaching Committee (CLCC). These coaches offer leadership training to any section in the region, using training modules that are tailored to SWE leadership, including maintaining a vital section. If you are planning a leadership retreat or want to share some essential leadership tips at your next section meeting, contact the Region C CLCC Chair, Prinda Wanakule, at prinda.wanakule[at]gmail.com!
SWE also provides a large number of scholarships!
The SWE scholarship program provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate SWE members. Over $450,000 is given out each year in at least 150 scholarships! For more information, visit the SWE website.
Above all, SWE gives you a fantastic network of engineering leaders!
The UNT SWE section describes it best–one of the best ways to make the most of SWE is to go to the annual and regional conferences! Not only do you meet SWE members all across your region or nation, you also have the opportunity of meeting great engineering leaders. These professionals can give students new perspectives and skills that cannot be learned in the classroom. The connections made at these conferences–including the career fairs at these conferences–have given countless SWE collegiates their first internships or full-time jobs. You may very well meet your professional mentor at the next conference! Find out more at we10.swe.org.
Do you have a great SWE resource at your own collegiate section? Maybe a test bank, or a great networking event? Or, you may have more ideas on how to make the most of SWE resources at the Society level! Leave a comment or email regionc.rcce[at]gmail.com with your thoughts!
