Gearing up for a New Year

It’s that time of year again, time to bid adieu to the long sun kissed days of summer, and head back to hitting the books. But never fear, it also means we will be kick starting a great new year with SWE.

We definitely have a lot of great things to look forward to, namely annual conference in Chicago, IL! October 13-15th is just around the corner, so don’t forget to register for WE11 by September 16th to get the early bird rates. For more info about conference check out the Annual Conference tab above, or the SWE website.

Back to SWE also means recruiting new members, and encouraging old members to return. Here are some ideas to help make that happen:

  • Host a meet and greet for incoming freshmen. This will offer them a chance to meet other new students, and to talk with upperclassmen about everything from engineering classes, to life on campus. Not to mention, it’s a great opportunity to introduce them to SWE!
  • At the first few meetings, encourage new members to sign up for C2C (Collegiate to Career). For a one-time $50 payment, collegiate members can secure a SWE membership for their collegiate years through the first year they qualify for professional grade membership. C2C is beneficial to students with two or more years of schooling left, and especially freshmen because it will maximize savings on membership dues.  It’ll also keep bringing them back to SWE. If you need more info about C2C, check out SWE’s Website.
  • Host a textbook swap. Your probably have a ton of old books from freshman year that need to be sold anyways (I know I do). Wouldn’t it wonderful to save some naïve freshmen from having to pay obscene prices for books at the campus bookstore!
  • Have a raffle or give away free loot at meetings. Free stuff/food can be really helpful in attracting people to come and check out an organization.

Hope everyone has a great start to the semester. Until next time, check out this promotional video for the great city of Chicago! Get excited for annual conference!
