EINS and E-Postcards

Steps for EINs and E-postcards!

If your section is covered by your university:

1.) Please email that EIN to regionc.rcr@gmail.com and state that your section is covered by your university.

2.) A formal letter written by the financial personnel at your university (Accounting/Finance Department) stating that your section is covered by the university. Please have this emailed to regionc.rcr@gmail.com

If your section is NOT covered by your university:

1.) You need to make sure your section is registered as a subordinate section under SWE. Email finance-chari@swe.org to confirm that your section is registered under SWE.

2.) File an e-postcard by November 15, 2011

3.) If your section is not registered under SWE, you need to request that your section be added as a subordinate organization under SWE’s tax exemption. Note, you will not be registered under SWE until March 2012 so you will not have to file an e-postcard until November 2012.

If you section needs to obtain an EIN:

To request an EIN, you will need to fill out an SS-4form and send it to the IRS. You can ask your RCRs (Ingrid and Liberty) for a prefilled form and you will just fill in the blanks marked with parenthesis OR you can fill out a blank SS-4 form.

Please see Region C’s Simple Guide to EIN numbers page 7

If your section needs to be registered as a subordinate organization under SWE:

At this point you must have an EIN

There is a form we will send you. You will need to fill it out and send it to SWE Headquarters before March.

Please see Region B’s Simple Guide to EIN numbers page 9

If your section needs to file an e-postcard:

You will nee to visit here and request to get a login ID and password. You will then need to fill out the Form 990-N which is the e-postcard. This can be found here. It should only take 20 minutes to fill out.

Please see Region C’s Simple Guide to EIN Numbers page 10.
